COLLABORAMA – a collaborative textile art project

A chance conversation in a Facebook textile art group I belong to led to a collaborative project that started in Febuary and has come to fruition today.
Myself and 9 other members of the group took part.
I prepared an A4 piece of fabric, added some bits of fabric (to alleviate the oppression of the blank page) and drew 10 circles on it. Each of us added some work to it, then posted it to the next person, until we had all contributed and it came back to me. I made 10 brooches from it, one for each of us,  and allocated them randomly.
Here is the piece I prepared..

I was the first to contribute to it…

I then posted it to Kirsty Mason who added work to these circles…

next up was Angela Boyce ….

then on to Carol MacDonald..

It then came back to me, like this…

and I added one of my handmade buttons to one of them (spot anything unusual about it?) cut out the circles , finished the edges with zigzag stitch and handstitching, then put backs on them so they can be worn as brooches

here are the finished brooches in all their glory… I think they are great!

It was really enjoyable, I got a wee thrill each time someone posted photos of their contribution. Towards the end we decided to do the whole thing again, but in reverse order of participants, and this time with a heart shape.

  11. As a member of the collaboration group, I want to thank Fran so much for suggesting and then making this happen.

I am a lone artisan in a small studio and don’t often get the chance to “share” in the creative process. This activity allowed me to do that and I hope there might be a change to do it again some time.

  12. I love every one. What a unique idea.

I was almost last contributing to the circles and almost first with the hearts, so each experience has been very different
How lovely to have a very unique brooch at the end of it, too, which 10 fibre artists have contributed to.

I cant wait to see how the hearts develop too

Thank you Fran and all who collaborated.
