100 days of : chapter 8

I’m taking part in the 100 Day Project , it officially finished on 10th of July, but I am still going. I had a bit of a break for a couple of months, and I must admit it is very easy to get out of the habit of stitching everyday.
I exchanged fabric with 9 other members of a Facebook group I belong to, and we are using each others pieces in our 100 Day Projects. For this phase I used a piece I received from Helen Billings Hodgson. You can read about previous phases here
I think that if I had not been involved with the exchanging of fabrics with other people I might well have given up completely, but the thought that another person is waiting to see what I do with their fabric is very motivational!
This is what Helen sent me, the top layer of fabric was a scrap saved from her wedding dress.
It can be daunting to cut up another persons work, but cut it up I must, so I girded my loins , turned it over, and cut 9 2×2 inch squares. I forgot to take a photo of them before I started working on them, but I remembered after the first day.
I thought I would do some doodling as well as stitching these pieces, and I really enjoyed it.

Here’s a group photo of all 9.

This is the 8×6 inch piece I sent Helen as part of the exchange.

She used a  template to cut out some hexagons

and she embellished them with interesting edgings.

She also decorated the spaces left behind

An interesting approach from Helen, you can see more of her innovative work on Facebook and Instagram

Next up, and the final phase of my 100 days will be done using this beautiful hand dyed fabric I received from Marianne Tighe.Very much looking forward to getting stuck into it, see you back here when I can show you what I did with it, and what Marianne did with the piece I sent her.

Chapter 9 is here

  1. FRan, what you are doing here makes me shiver all over – the very act of involving each other playfully is so happy, loving and free. It makes a HUGE impact on me for good. Blessing to your work! It shines!
