we’ve been framed …….

Seems like the only time I blog nowadays is when I’ve got a collaboration to show off, and I’m happy to say that I’ve got another one.
You can see the previous ones here   here   and here .
This time myself and 7 members of a Facebook textile art group took turns contributing to these squares

First up was Angela Boyce

then they went to Carol Macdonald

next up was Annie Mac

henceforth to Ruth Zanoni Roskell

they then wended their way to Jane Spencer

next up was Kate Stuart (photos to follow)
and then on to Kirsty Mason

last to go was me

I then girded my loins and chopped all of the squares into 32mm x 32mm pieces….. whaaaat? whyyyyy? I hear you ask, well then I’ll tell you what and why. A couple of years ago I bought these wooden box frames from someone on facebook who was destashing their workshop, they are 10cm x 10cm, so quite dinky…

I mounted the small pieces in the squares.  8 contributors + 9 spaces = 1 space left for 1 of my handmade buttons.
Here are the results, each of us received one , and we are all delighted with them.

This was a really fun project, and I’m pleased to say there are 2 more happening as we speak, and plans afoot for more.

EDITED TO ADD : you can see more of my collaborative projects here..

      1. Yes, it adds to the fun that each participant gets one to keep 🙂

  2. Nerves of steel Fran! Chopping up work is a mixture of high risk, destruction, fear, adventure, bloody hell is this a good idea and how could I?, and fantastic creativity! I just love the results. Well done to all of you!

  7. Absolutely gorgeous -and just a thought-Have you by any chance any box frames left you would like to sell?

  8. I absolutely loved taking part in this collaboration.
I love that I have to find my way creatively and work where someone else has already set the boundaries – for me to push and change – to then pass on to someone else to do the same.
I never really work collaboratively so this is wonderful and challenges me in a good way.
Thank you to Fran and everyone who took part. The finished results are beautiful and we all get to keep one each.

  9. Stunning as usual Fran

  10. Cor! wonderful…I wonder what you will do with the fabric left over, you never waste any thing.

  11. It’s been such fun and I love being part of this wonderful team. Part of the fun is not actually knowing the people taking part so what everyone does is a surprise every time. I cannot second guess what might appear. Long may our group continue. Thanks Fran for the idea and the organisation. I love the blog too.

  13. Your collaberations are fantastic. I have loved all of the ones you have shown recently. I would love to take part in one. Can anyone join the facebook group in which these are made. I belong to other facebook groups where we trade fabric postcards and I do a lot of hand embroidery ie beadwork and goldwork.

    1. Thanks Sandra, the group where I “met” the other participants in the collaborations is Textile Art Collective https://www.facebook.com/groups/368600056587126/
The collaborations are all UK based to keep the cost of postage down, are you in the UK?
